Most hosting service providers will not allow you to use Telnet or ssh to access your hosting account based on 'security concerns'.

Both Telnet and SSH are available with all our Unix accounts. We do not limit sessions or data transfer in any way.
Use your Shell Access to edit files directly on the server using VI/VIM, and to set permissions and ownership on files and directories. Telnet and/or SSH access is essential for web application Developers.
